When my wife Alice and I review the blessings of raising our children and having cherished friends and neighbors, we always put the wonderful gem that is Fish Tales at the top of the list. Our Christmas Eve meal of The Seven Fishes — always the height of our Holiday Season — has become a signature event for decades. Our children now grown with their own families, our neighbors of all faiths, and our memories of fabulous fish meals throughout the year culminate in that one dinner that personifies our respect, admiration and true love for the men and women who created, maintained and nourished us all these years. Fish Tales blesses us each and every day: I am honored and humbled to say thank you to them for all they have done for us.
Far and away the BEST seafood store in Brooklyn or anywhere for that matter. High quality seafood and superb service. A family owned Gem!!!
The best place in the neighborhood for fresh seafood. The guys are always welcoming and knowledgeable. Today, a customer was sharing excellent news and everyone in the store was happy for him. It's that kind of neighborhood place. Their lobster bisque is out of this 🌎...
This is the only place I will buy fish in Brooklyn! The market has been here for many years , not to mention a family business and has become a community staple. Fish is always the freshest and the whole staff, namely Chris and Nick are the kindest in the business. Go check them out!!!
The only place I’ll get fish. The trip from New Jersey is worth it every time. John and Chris are always welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. They’re also happy to give recommendations and cooking instructions. Highly recommend if you want the best quality fish.
Due to my proximity to Fish Tales, I'm among the fortunate few New Yorkers who have access to perfectly fresh fish seven days a week. The staff at Fish Tales is clearly dedicated (they go to the fish market every day at some unholy hour) and are always eager and enthusiastic. They've never hesitated to help me with my (sometimes bizarre) seafood needs.
We have been buying fresh fish and seafood from Fish Tales several times a week since about 1996. Everything they sell--from sweet New Zealand clams to jumbo shrimp to Chilean sea bass to catfish--is unfailingly fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly, gracious, and very helpful, even to the point of giving excellent cooking suggestions if asked. (Who would know better than they?).
Oh, how to express everything I love about Fish Tales …It’s honestly difficult because really, how does one count the ways; super fresh product? Super friendly and helpful guys? I moved to Boerum Hill in 1996 from Atlanta, not knowing a soul, and you guys made me feel at home from the get go and always indulged my special requests. Through the years, I’ve come to know John, Chris, Austin (and all the guys in the back!) as guys that feel like family. They are all knowledgeable about the seafood they’re presenting and always give a tip for cooking when asked (do yourself a favor and ask…you might learn something new) or give a suggestion to try something new. And I think more than anything, I feel like we’re friends. That’s totally special these days.
